Carbon+Alt+Delete launches academic licence

Discover this blog post

At Carbon+Alt+Delete, we believe that climate education is one of the most powerful tools for change.

That’s why we’re launching our new Academic License, giving universities and students across Europe access to the same carbon accounting software used by professional sustainability consultants.

Why we need more carbon-literate graduates

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time and the transition to a net-zero economy will require tons of professionals who understand carbon accounting.

From engineers and business analysts to policy experts and consultants, tomorrow’s workforce must be fluent in the language of carbon data.

As Kenneth Van den Bergh, Co-Founder and CEO of Carbon+Alt+Delete, puts it:

“We have less than three decades to drastically reduce global emissions. To make that possible, we need people everywhere who can measure, understand, and act on carbon data.”

Yet, many students still leave university with limited exposure to practical carbon accounting. With new regulations like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and global standards such as ISO 14064 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, demand for these skills is only growing.

Bringing professional tools into the classroom

To help bridge this knowledge gap, we are making our software available to universities and research institutions through a dedicated academic license.

With this program:

  • Students can use real data and professional tools to complete their first carbon accounting projects — gaining hands-on experience that mirrors real-world consulting work.
  • Researchers can integrate high-quality carbon accounting methods into academic studies and innovation projects.

This approach not only improves understanding but also encourages collaboration between academia and industry ensuring that carbon accounting education evolves with the field itself.

Accessible, scalable, and built for education

For just €500 per year, universities or student organizations receive a license that allows unlimited student and researcher accounts.

The license is intended solely for academic purposes, such as teaching and research, ensuring that every euro invested directly supports climate education and scientific exploration.

“Universities are shaping the sustainability experts of tomorrow,” says Kenneth. “By making our software accessible to students, we’re investing in the skills the world urgently needs.”
